Cirque du Soleil Event Raises $22,215 for Horizons for Youth
Thank you to all those who supported Horizons for Youth through purchasing tickets to Cirque du Soleil’s performance of ‘OVO’ on Friday, September 25th, 2009. With your charitable donation, we managed to raise a grand total of $22,215 for our homeless youth shelter. Your generous contribution makes us more than just a shelter. Your support ensures that our youth can complete their education, secure stable employment, obtain safe and secure housing, and have access to assistance and health services.
Thank you to our Board of Directors, Staff, friends and donors of Horizons for Youth for your help selling tickets to this event. We could not have raised this much without your help.

Horizons for youth is excited to announce that we raised a net profit of $ 34,439.30 for our ‘Racing for a Reason’ Dinner at Woodbine Racetrack on Wednesday, June 24th, 2009.
A special thank you to the Event Chair, Mr. John Robertson for his tireless efforts to make this year’s event a success. Thank you to all of our sponsors and individuals who purchased tickets and tables to the event, and to all staff at Woodbine for once again putting on a fabulous event at the Trackside Tent.
Hockey for Horizons
On Saturday, May 30th, 2009 Horizons for Youth hosted our First Annual ‘Hockey for Horizons’ Ball Hockey Tournament at Trinity-Bellwoods Park. Twelve teams participated in the day long event, with the North Stars beating the Napping Lindy’s 8-5 in the Final to take the inaugural tournament.
The event originally was started to have 4 teams participating with the proceeds going to Horizons, but snow-balled into a 12 team tournament with prizes, a raffle, snack bar, a DJ and a bbq.
With the help of Tournament Organizer, Justin Herten-Greaven, the event raised a net profit of $10,628.00.
Special thank you to the Tournament Organizing Committee, the numerous volunteers and all the teams who participated. We hope to make next year even bigger.
Umbrella Day
Horizons for Youth is excited to announce that our 6th Annual Umbrella Day on Thursday, April 2nd, 2009 raised $15,603.75 this year during our one day event. Even with the state of the economy, people still took the time to donate towards a good cause, and for this we are very grateful. Thank you to all those who donated. You have helped us help our youth.
We have yet to reach our goal of $20,000, but donations are coming in every day and we hope to reach our goal in the near future, with your continued support.
Thank you so much to all staff, Board Members and most importantly our volunteers, who took the time out of their busy schedules to help raise awareness and much needed funds for Horizons for Youth’s programs and services.
Soraya
came to us fleeing an abusive arranged
marriage. She came in a shy girl
who had difficulty looking anyone in
the face. Now she is a college
graduate and works as an executive assistant
at a car dealership.
Richard came to us after his only family, his grandmother,
passed away. Richard had some untreated health issues
as well and at first was very reluctant to see a doctor. Today
Richard is healthy and works with a security alarm company.
Claudia lived on the streets and in shelters for the
better part of 5 years while struggling with her mental
health issues. It took a lot of time to develop
the trust needed to Claudia to get the right kind of
treatment. Today she is the poster child for
a youth apprenticeship program.
