Horizons for Youth's Annual General Meeting took place on July 23rd, 2008. We would like to thank Chef. Joseph Lesch for his fabulous food donation for the event and to our own chef, Mr. Dearon Rhule for preparing a fantastic meal. Thank you to all who attended. Horizons for Youth is excited to announce that we achieved and surpassed our $50,000 goal for our 'Racing for a Reason' Dinner at Woodbine Racetrack on June 25th, 2008. A special thank you to the event organizers, Miss. Crystal Mitchell and Mr. John Robertson for their tireless efforts to make this event our biggest yet. Thank you to all our corporations and individuals who purchased tickets to the event and to all the staff at Woodbine for putting on a fabulous event at the Trackside Tent.

After 1.5 years as Executive Director and numerous years as a Board Member at Horizons, Jeannette Campbell is moving on to the developmental disabilities field. Jeannette has made a huge impact at Horizons and her dedication to the cause has been invaluable to the organization. Thank You Jeannette for all your hard work.
Starting July 2nd, 2008, Horizons for Youth will be welcoming a new Executive Director, Mrs. Filomena Williams. Filomena brings over 15 years experience to Horizons in the social services field. We would like to welcome Filomena to the Horizons family and look forward to working with her.

Horizons for Youth is excited to announce that we met our goal of $20,000 for our 5th Annual Umbrella Day Campaign. Thank you to all our volunteers and to every person who donated. You have helped us help our youth.

On February 1, 2008 Horizons for Youth will expand to 37 Varna Drive in the Lawrence Heights neighbourhood to house Career Horizons, an Employment and Skills Training Program . This exciting one year pilot project will combine JVS Toronto's Youth Services, City of Toronto - HPI, Alexandra Park Neighbourhood Centre, and the Lawrence Heights Community Services together under one roof to combat unemployment for homeless youth. The first group of youth will begin services in March 2008.

Horizons for Youth has been granted a contract by the City of Toronto, in partnership with the Homelessness Partnership Initiative to carry out a newly developed and innovative career training program called Career Horizons. This program will include prevocational life skills training, placement opportunities, job search help, on site job coaching, and follow up. This program will benefit homeless and at-risk youth in the Greater Toronto Area secure and maintain competitive employment and increase their future success.
